No Time for Hesitation

At 1708, heavy dark clouds were looming in the horizon and a thunder storm had already begun. I, Specter One, and my wingman, Specter TWO, were flying fast and low that evening in our F-4 phantoms and headed towards a high priority target deep within enemy territories. The dark skies and the hihg hills somehow a good cover and a level of comfort as we weaved through them towards the target. The enemy troops protecting that facility did not expect any attacks in such a weather nor they thought that we could make such daring move this far inside their lands.

We were several seconds away from the firing range and my heart was beating faster and faster as we got closer. I was looking at the final hill with piercing intensity and my brain began visualizing the image of the target when suddenly a blinding lightening interrupted my thoughts and my plane shook briefly as if something hit my plane. I looked through the canopy and saw bullet holes on both side s of the wings. My heart pounded faster but there was no time for hesitation or retreat as we were already within the firing range. I had a lock on the target and released a missile.
