Nice as always!

Foxbats are seen as the counter to the SR-71 Blackbird, but later found out they cannot still match the Blackbird's speed and operational altitude.

not only that, but when reports came for the MiG-25 Foxbat, they looked and thought it was a very fast, and the wing size could mean a very agile fighter...

Until it was shown the wingspan was huge just to get the bloody thing off the ground and it was essentially a school bus with wings. Excellent interceptor...but it's more of a winged bus than the F-4

Not to mention that the Foxbat, second to its larger brother the MiG-31 Foxhound is the heaviest fighter in the Mikoyan-Gurevich line-up.

Those engines gave the Foxbat Mach 3 speed, but the Blackbird is faster with Mach 3.5. Plus, it's handling is a bit hard, and turning is long, due to it's size.

But the MiG-31 coupled with the Zaslon RaDAR and the long range MACH 4.5 R-33 missile has the ability to engage the SR-71 from long range in frontal-aspect and short to medium range in rear-aspect. This capability is further enhanced with today's MiG-31M/BM which carries 6 extended range MACH 6 R-37s and an improved Zaslon-M RaDAR. While the MiG-25s incapable at best at defeating the SR-71 with its low-performance missiles, the MiG-31 is a real danger to the SR-71 and is a reason why the U.S. stopped SR-71 flights over Russia: theaviationist.com/2013/12/11/…

Today's MiG-31M/BMs also have LERXs to improve maneuverability and high AoA handling. Not F-15 kind of maneuverability but still much more than sufficient to perform notching and cranking maneuvers to defeat missiles fired from long range.

With that said, the US lost it's only easy survaillance over Russia.

The Foxhound has nothing to chase anymore, it's original targets now at museums. Well, it's just an versatile jet waiting for prey... until Mother Russia sends them off to hunt those who threaten her.

As par with the F-15, the F-15 has an advantage over the Foxhound in terms of maneuverability, but it will have quite the hard time due to the Foxhound's Zaslon and it's thick armor. Plus, the Foxhound is able to do Beyond-Visual-Range attacks (BVR).

the largest interceptor ever built and know that thing had to be loud with two massive engines. even though this is a drawing most of the real ones I have seen were painted all gray so the camo really looks good on it.

It's a very dramatic image, but he seems to be flying very low considering the Foxbat was primarily developed to try and intercept Blackbirds.

I've seen lots of photos of MiG-25s, but I've never seen one in camouflage -- even the recon version didn't use it.

As for the SR-71, it got retired because the US Air Force was expected to pay for its operational cost$$$$, even though satellites and less expensive recon versions of other fighters met their needs.

Of course there are Mig-25s in Camo, here, have a look: www.airwar.ru/photo/mig25/mig2… some where stationed in eastern Germany during the cold war.

I know it is more comfy for some to believe in the official story, but SR-71 was not only retired for the cost reason, but there are other facts to consider: theaviationist.com/2013/12/11/… .  read the article.

I never understood why they put camouflage on planes.

"DAMMIT, I lost him!"

"Oh, wait, I see him, he's that green speck."

"My Camo is the best! :D"

I think it is largely meant to get the planes mixed with the ground they fly on, so it would be hard to detect for the enemies flying above, be it spy planes or enemy fighters. It is specially useful for jets when they are on the ground, even their hangar-tops are painted with the colors of the surrounding lands :)

Well, thinking of you being on the ground, you'd have the advantage of hearing the plane, and Green against a Blue/White sky is rather obvious, hmm?
